Young Lawyers Section to Participate in MLK Day of Service on Jan. 15 - Volunteers Needed!
MLK Day

The Young Lawyers Section will once again be participating in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service on Monday, January 15. As with years past, all members are invited to participate. This year, there will be 2 different half-day projects, both located in Ambler:

  • Interfaith Housing Alliance - 10 AM - 2 PM - The Interfaith Housing Alliance provides emergency and transitional shelter to families with children, as well as emergency food relief and intensive case management and support services. For our service project, volunteers will be helping to winterize residents’ apartments at the Housing Alliance’s location in Ambler. Each volunteer to assist in this project is asked to bring their own hair dryer, which will be used to apply a plastic adhesive to the apartments’ windows to help insulate them against the cold.

  • Mattie Dixon Community Cupboard - 12 PM - 3 PM - The Mattie Dixon Community Cupboard provides food, clothing, employment assistance/resume building, medical referrals, housing referrals and emergency financial assistance to individuals in need in our community.  For our service project, volunteers will be assisting at the Cupboard after they complete their food distribution that day. Volunteers will help with clean up following the food distribution, and generally organizing and cleaning up their “pantry” and received donations. In addition, we are encouraging volunteers to bring along items to donate. The Cupboard’s current “wish list” of non-perishable items can be found here: https://community-cupboard.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Wish-list-Dec-2017.pdf.

If you would like to volunteer for either project, please contact Aimee Kumer at alk@elliottgreenleaf.com.
