Opportunity Extended to Help Support Legal Aid!
MBF - Legal Aid

In the midst of a summer complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, civil unrest caused by the recognition of difficult race relations, anxiety over the disease and its cost to the economy, and high rates of unemployment for many lower income people, the need for the services of Legal Aid attorneys and pro-bono attorneys who help Legal Aid represent people and get justice is more acute than ever.

In lieu of participating in the Legal Aid Golf Classic this year, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic, the Montgomery Bar Foundation would like to encourage you and your law firm to make a donation to the MBF in support of Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Please consider making a donation of $250, which would have been commensurate with your registration fee. Your donation will be matched by the Montgomery Bar Association (up to $20,000 aggregate total). UPDATE: Less than $5,000 is required to reach our $20,000 matching goal!

CLICK HERE to make your donation by September 30, 2020 and join your colleagues who have already contributed:

Seniors and the Potential for Fraud
Featuring Erin Saulino, Esq.

Seniors are at risk for being caught up in a variety of fraudulent schemes or actions, especially financial crimes. As an attorney, learn how to recognize certain red flags that may pop up with regards to your senior clients, who you can go to in order to get guidance on how to report these potential securities violations, and what rules are in place to help protect your client from being defrauded. FINRA, the Financial Regulatory Authority, is a government authorized, non-profit which oversees and regulates the financial markets. FINRA has established the Senior Helpline in 2015 with an entire department dedicated to helping seniors with questions about their accounts and statements, or if they have any issues with their broker dealers, agents or investment advisors.

FMLA, ADA, FFCRA and Local Leave Laws in the Age of COVID
Featuring Patrice M. Turenne, Esq. and Dianne M. Moretzsohn, Esq.

After providing a brief overview of FMLA, ADA, FFCRA and local leave laws, Patrice and Dianne will focus on identifying legal issues and risks that arise in the workplace as employers grapple with COVID related leave requests. This is particularly timely given the reopening of schools and the likely increase in employee absences and requests for leave. It's a program not to be missed if you are an employer or a labor and employment attorney who is counseling clients through the COVID-19 pandemic!

Young Lawyers Section Food Drive Benefitting Manna on Main Street
Food Drive

The Young Lawyers Section will be hosting a Virtual Month of Service in September. Projects will include a food drive to benefit Manna on Main Street, a virtual Lunch and Learn, virtual Bingo with the Montgomery County Senior Adult Activities Center (MontCo SAAC), and participation in a virtual 5k.

Donations to the food drive can be made at the MBA Building at 100 W. Airy Street, Norristown, PA, 19401 during regular business hours (M-F, 9 AM - 4:30 PM) through the end of September. A collection box is located in the lobby for contact-free drop-off!  Please be sure to wear a mask when entering the building. In the past, we've had a limited number of firms serve as alternate drop-off locations. In order to limit travel and make sure that more of you can donate safely and securely, we are asking all of you to collect donations safely in your office and we’ll pick them up at the end of the month.  Please be sure to contact Jen Whitehurst at jennifer.whitehurst@law.villanova.edu if you plan to collect donations so that we may coordinate pickup.

Registration is Now Open for the PBA Diversity Summit - October 7, 2020
PBA

The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Minority Bar Committee invites you to participate in their Virtual Diversity Summit on October 7, 2020. For the first time ever, the PBA has joined with a county bar association to present this event and identified the MBA specifically because of our focus on diversity issues and programs. The summit was initially slated to take place in Montgomery County because of the partnership, but will now be held virtually due to the pandemic. It is important that we show our support for our bar association and our diversity initiatives by registering and attending the summit, which features a total of 6.5 ethics credits and includes a session presented by our own Hon. Joseph P. Walsh, MBA President Patrick J. Kurtas, Marilou Watson, and Nancy Walsh.
