Montgomery County Justice Center Groundbreaking Event - Next Tuesday
Justice Center

County officials invite all members to a special groundbreaking event for the Montgomery County Justice Center in Norristown. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, 9:30 AM, at the Montgomery County Courthouse (Entrance at Swede and Penn Streets).

This ceremony will mark the beginning of a project that ties three complex projects into one: constructing a modern County justice center that more than doubles the size of the existing courthouse, completely renovates the current courthouse facility, and re-invents Hancock Square park as an accessible, active public park.

Philadelphia Bar Association to Host Forum on ABA Practice-Forward Report - June 14, 2021
ABA Report

The Philadelphia Bar Association has invited the MBA and other neighboring bar associations to join their upcoming Chancellor’s Forum event, which will focus a new American Bar Association (ABA) report on navigating legal practice in a post-COVID-19 world, co-authored by Stephanie A. Scharf and Roberta D. Liebenberg. Stephanie and Bobbi have graciously agreed to present their findings and then discuss the issues raised in the report with a panel of leaders from the legal community. The report, which was released on April 26, is the result of a survey of 4,200 ABA members. It finds that the need to work remotely during COVID-19 has caused high levels of stress and disengagement among lawyers, with these impacts disproportionately falling on women attorneys and attorneys of color. Respondents also expressed the need for organization-wide policies focused on improving individual well-being, including flexible work schedules, comprehensive leave policies, and better efforts at communication and employee engagement from the top down.

The live discussion is scheduled for 4 - 5:30 PM on June 14 and will take place via Zoom.

I am very happy to announce that, beginning June 14, my Norristown and Willow Grove offices will reopen to the public for all filing types.

In Norristown, our in-person filing hours will be from 8:30am until 4pm, and from 9am to 4pm in Willow Grove. Filers are of course welcome to continue efiling, sending in filings by mail, and using our secure dropbox located in the Courthouse lobby to deposit filings without waiting. NEW: MBA Launches Well-Being Project
MBA Well-Being Project

The MBA Well-Being Project is a new MBA initiative borne out of President Jacqueline M. Reynolds' challenge to members to focus on self-care and well-being. As she mentioned in her inaugural address in January, “oftentimes, health and wellness are last in the laundry list of items accomplished by attorneys every day.” In accordance with President Reynolds’ focus on lawyer well-being, the MBA will be conducting a number of different events throughout the year to provide members with the tools to focus and maintain their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

What are you doing to maintain well-being? Drop us a line at wellbeing@montgomerybar.org and we'll add it to our MBA Well-Being Project website! Send us a video or quick blurb about what you're doing (meditation, yoga, exercise, etc.) so we can share it with our membership.

Solo & Small Firm Committee Presents: Passing the Torch - Avoiding Malpractice Once Your Practice Ends
Featuring Ellen Freedman, PBA Law Practice Management Coordinator and Kenneth P. Milner, Esq.

When you renewed your license to practice law this past year, you had to answer a question about whether you have arranged for someone to handle your cases if something should happen to you. You will likely see the same question the next time you renew your professional liability insurance policy.

Attorneys have ethical responsibilities to protect their clients' interests. Those responsibilities do not end when you stop practicing. Yet many attorneys have neglected to establish a plan for how their clients' interests will be protected if they retire, die, or become disabled.
Ellen Freedman, PBA Law Practice Management Coordinator, will provide to you the information you need to protect your clients - and yourself.

Taught by Adjunct Professor of Animal Law at Temple BEasley School of Law, Dara Lovitz, this session will explore the various practice areas that intersect with animal law and cover some new developments in Pennsylvania Animal Law.
