Topic: The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act was signed into law on December 20, 2019. SECURE makes significant changes to the rules for retirement accounts, particularly those regarding inherited IRAs. Rather than allowing beneficiaries of inherited IRAs to stretch distributions over their life expectancies, SECURE limits most beneficiaries to 10-year payouts. As a result of these changes, planning templates and estate plans created pre-SECURE should be reviewed to avoid bad tax outcomes under the new law. Learn what you need to know to respond to these changes and properly advise your estate planning clients.
